Why
-
Benefits
and
transferability
The
intent
is
to
provide
distance
communication
and
education
through
the
utilization
of
the
most
suitable
technical
media.
This
presumes
the
integration
of
communication
systems
and
resources
and
the
application
of
specific
teaching
methodologies.
In
a
period
in
which
we
are
experiencing
the
development
of
distance
teaching
and
learning
with
a
view
to
lifelong
learning,
we
think
that
the
use
of
videoconference,
with
which
it
is
possible
to
establish
and
maintain
a
visual
direct
on-line
contact
between
the
learners
and
the
teacher
without
losing
all
the
irreplaceable
expressive
features
typical
of
direct
communication
(speed
of
speech,
length
of
pauses,
pitch,
gestures,
facial
expression
and
other
body
language),
may
be
a
successful
tool
and
an
alternative
solution
with
respect
to
the
various
types
of
didactical
software.
The
use
of
all
ICT
tools
has
enriched
teachers'
communication
by
increasing
the
students'
attention
span
and
involvement,
but
the
current
extension
of
broadband
connections
can
help
us
expand
and
enhance
education
because
it
makes
it
possible
to
provide
effective
direct
online
video
communication
face
to
face.
We
have
used
ISDN
videoconference
to
create
virtual
learning
environments
in
which
direct
communication
and
the
possibility
of
immediate
feed-back
are
preserved.
The
learning
environment
created
through
the
videoconference
is
virtual
but
not
artificial:
students
affected
by
long
time
illness
can
take
part
in
the
lessons
held
in
their
own
classes;
non-language
teachers
are
involved
in
real
communicative
situations
where
they
are
necessarily
induced
to
use
the
foreign
language
and
can
improve
their
language
skills
more
easily.
Finally,
new
types
of
cooperative
learning
and
teaching
can
be
started
where
knowledge
and
research
are
shared
in
real
time
with
distant
partners,
institutions
and
educators.
Benefits
Face
to
face
real
time
interaction
Schedule
meetings
more
easily
Minimize
time
away
from
the
classroom
Save
on
travel
costs
Take
advantage
of
cutting-edge
technology
Methodological
features
The
use
of
videoconference
involves
the
development
of
good
practices
in
order
to
make
virtual
teaching
and
communicating
effective.
These
concern:
practical
applications
of
virtual
teaching;
how
to
modify
traditional
lessons
for
virtual
instruction;
how
to
plan
for
virtual
instruction;
how
to
present
over
videoconferencing
technology:
adoption
of
good
communication
rules
(gestures,
pitch,
speech
interaction)
and
technical
solutions
(colours,
framing,
placement
of
equipment
and
speakers,
etc.)
how
to
keep
up
with
the
international
standards
of
this
rapidly
changing
technology
